National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance CANADA

Introduction

Representatives from law enforcement, government, industry and academia have created an organization that will address the rapidly growing problem of e-commerce crime. NCFTA Canada is the newly formed collaborative organization where multi-sector teams can join together to leverage each other's skill sets and resources to better address the needs of its partners.
NCFTA Canada has established a jointly developed and staffed facility where experts from industry, academia, the public sector and law enforcement will participate in:

  • cyber-forensic analysis;
  • tactical response and enforcement;
  • technology vulnerability analysis; and
  • the development of advanced training and certifications in incident response, data recovery and forensics analysis.

This laboratory and training collaboration will reduce redundant efforts and will leverage the use of strong regional and nationally based resources from both the public and private sectors. Concordia University faculty along with Master and PhD students will participate alongside members of the robust high technology industry to manpower NCFTA Canada with the capability of constructing dynamic responses to continually emerging problems with the Internet, e-commerce, and critical system vulnerabilities. NCFTA Canada campus is currently housed at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Additional laboratory campuses are planned to be established that will effectively combine resources, intelligence, and expertise across the country. These additional collaborations will be linked to the Montreal campus through a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN), thereby significantly enhancing the public-private information and the associated resource synergies that have already been developed.
